Pixels, inches and DPI in one sentence
A photo is a grid of pixels with no physical size. When you print it, you choose how many pixels go into each inch — the DPI — and that decides the size: inches = pixels ÷ DPI. More DPI means a sharper but smaller print from the same file; fewer means larger but softer. 300 DPI is the lab standard for prints you hold; 150 is fine for a wall.

How do I convert pixels to inches?
Divide the pixel dimension by the DPI (dots per inch) you will print or display at: 3,000 px ÷ 300 DPI = 10 inches. Multiply inches by 2.54 for centimeters. Without a DPI a pixel has no physical size, which is why the calculator asks for one.
What is the difference between DPI and PPI?
PPI (pixels per inch) describes image resolution; DPI (dots per inch) describes printer output. In everyday use — and in this calculator — they are used interchangeably: “300 DPI” means 300 image pixels per printed inch.
How many megapixels do I need to print an 8×10?
At 300 DPI an 8×10 inch print needs 2,400 × 3,000 pixels, which is 7.2 megapixels. Any modern phone camera exceeds that; a 12 MP iPhone photo (4032 × 3024) prints 8×10 at about 300 DPI with room to crop.
What aspect ratio are iPhone photos?
Standard iPhone photos are 4:3 (3:4 in portrait). The Camera app can also shoot 1:1 square and 16:9 by cropping. Printing on 4×6 (3:2) or 8×10 (5:4) paper therefore always trims a little from the long or short edge.

How do I crop a 4:3 iPhone photo to 9:16 without stretching?
Crop to the 9:16 ratio first — for a 3024 × 4032 portrait that is 2268 × 4032 — then resize to 1080 × 1920. Never resize to the target directly, which stretches. https://whitebalancer.com/tools/photo-size-calculator calculates the crop for any photo and platform.
