Why “equivalent” matters
Two cameras with the same equivalent focal length frame the scene identically. Equivalent aperture tells you whether they can also match depth of field: a full-frame f/1.4 lens has no equal on a phone, which is why phone portrait modes exist.

Questions people ask
What is the crop factor of an iPhone?
About 3.5× for the main camera (a 6.9 mm lens behaves like 24 mm) and around 6× for the smaller ultra-wide and telephoto sensors. Apple quotes the equivalents, not the real focal lengths.
Does crop factor change the aperture?
Not the exposure — f/1.8 is f/1.8 for brightness on any sensor. It changes depth of field: f/1.8 on a 3.5× phone sensor gives the background blur of about f/6.3 on full frame, which is why phones simulate bokeh in software.
Is a 50 mm lens on APS-C a 75 mm?
It has the field of view of a 75 mm lens on full frame (50 × 1.5), but its perspective and physical focal length are unchanged. It is a 50 mm lens with a 75 mm-equivalent view.
What is a 50 mm lens equivalent to on APS-C or Micro Four Thirds?
